Holiday Countdown: 40 Days! Boney M. - Petit Papa Noel & Expensive Elves

So I finally caved. I fought it long and hard. I bought a stupid Elf On The Shelf. I thought, "I am such a Christmas lover and I don't have an elf? Really, my problem is Pinterest. Even though I have entertained the thought of getting an elf I never had the urge. Then I started using my Pinterest account  (another thing I fought off even though I joined years ago).

Yeah. The hook was random acts of kindness lists on top of the funny things you can do. I know we don't need a silly looking...wait...CREEPY looking doll...a doll that looks like a North pole version of Chucky....a doll that will kill you in your sleep. Yeah we don't need one of those.

But I started thinking it would be cute. My 11 year old (who also thinks it looks creepy) of course knows about Santa but part of the unveiling of that mystery involved Santa always being alive in our home. We carry on as we always have. The cookies, the carrots, the letter ( if we get around to THAT), making sure the fireplace is cool enough...all of it.

So I caved. Bought it today...25% off for Black Friday even though it was Thursday. Let's see if I actually carry on with it.

Ok, music! So I can't remember my exact age, I think I was about 10 or so, my mother bought the Boney M. Christmas album. A whole new world was opened up to me. I had no idea that there were songs outside of the regular church songs and the classic ones we sang in schools such as Rudolph and Frosty. White Christmas, Feliz Navidad, When Darkness is Falling...It was exciting and refreshing to have a larger repertoire of songs. I remember trying to guess which one of the ladies sang the second verse (lolllllll).

Petit Papa Noel...I had no idea what it was about. I couldn't sing along. But it was so calming, lovely. I love it. I remember my daughter loving this song too. As a French immersion student, it was one she learned in Kindergarten. She performed it with her class the Christmas concert and as a solo in her voice recital.

Then I found out what it was about.

I still can't sing along except little tiny parts of sentences, so I start then stop, start then stop. It's amusing actually. At least there is humming. Such a little delightful melody.

Holiday Countdown: 41 Days! Adam Sandler - The Chanukah Song Parts 3 & 4 and The Christmas Song

Continuing from yesterday. You know, I had no idea there was a part 3 and 4 until I put together the Parts 1 & 2 post. Too funny. I'm not up to date as you may have noticed. I'm also including Adam Sandler's The Christmas Song, which is not on my playlist. Part 3:  Part 4:  The Christmas Song:

Holiday Countdown: 47 Days! Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmas Time

Ah, my days in banking. 9 straight hours of holiday music while I worked. Yeah, I focused on the music. Couldn't get enough of it. This was a song that I wasn't as fond of back then. It was something that grew on me. I'm not sure what it was. But somehow it made it to my list. Maybe it's memories of a job that I enjoyed, a song from my youth...whatever it was I have a fondness for it now.
